Jordan Consumer Prices Fall in November
Consumer prices in Jordan dropped 0.4 percent year-on-year in November of 2019, after a 0.1 percent rise in the previous month. Prices declined for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-1.7 percent vs -0.3 percent in October); transport (-2.2 percent vs -1.4 percent); clothing & footwear (-2.0 percent vs -1.8 percent) and alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-3.2 percent, the same as in October) while cost slowed for housing (1.7 percent vs 1.8 percent) and restaurants & hotels (0.1 percent vs 0.2 percent). On the other hand, inflation was steady for education (at 2.0 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (at 1.3 percent) while prices advanced faster for health (1.9 percent vs 1.8 percent) and recreation & culture (3.1 percent vs 2.7 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices rose 0.2 percent, the same as in the prior month.

Inflation rate in Jordan increased to 0.1 percent in October of 2019, after a 0.3 percent drop in the previous month. Cost advanced faster for housing (1.8 percent vs 1.6 percent in September); education (2.0 percent vs 1.8 percent) and recreation & culture (2.7 percent vs 2.2 percent) while it fell at a softer pace for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.3 percent vs -0.9 percent) and transport (-1.4 percent vs -2.7 percent). On the other hand, prices slowed for miscellaneous goods & services (1.3 percent vs 1.6 percent); health (1.8 percent vs 1.9 percent) while furniture & household equipment cost dropped further (-0.3 percent vs -0.2 percent). On a monthly basis, inflation rate edged up to 0.3 percent, rebounding from a 0.6 percent drop in September.

Consumer prices in Jordan declined 0.3 percent year-on-year in September of 2019, following a 0.1 percent rise in the previous month. It was the first month of deflation since October of 2016, as prices dropped for food & non-alcoholic beverages (-0.9 percent vs 0.1 percent in August); transport (-2.7 percent vs -1.8 percent); alcoholic beverages & tobacco (-3.2 percent vs -3.0 percent); furniture & household equipment (-0.2 percent vs -0.1 percent) and clothing & footwear (-2.2 percent, the same as in August). In addition, housing cost slowed (1.6 percent vs 1.7 percent). On the other hand, cost advanced faster for education (1.8 percent vs 1.3 percent) and miscellaneous goods & services (1.6 percent vs 1.4 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices went down 0.6 percent, after increasing 0.1 percent in August.
