Swiss Trade Surplus Narrows in October
The Swiss trade surplus narrowed to CHF 2.39 billion in October 2019 from an upwardly revised CHF 3.05 billion in the previous month. Exports fell 5.3 percent to CHF 19.34 billion, while imports dropped at a softer 2.4 percent to CHF 16.95 billion. Considering the first ten months of the year, the trade surplus widened to CHF 21.5 billion from CHF 14.9 billion in the same period of 2018.

The Swiss trade surplus widened sharply to CHF 3.3 billion in June 2019 from a downwardly revised CHF 1.5 billion in the previous month. This was the largest trade surplus since January 2017, as exports rose 8.5 percent to CHF 20.4 billion while imports fell 0.8 percent to CHF 17.1 billion. Considering the first half of the year, the trade surplus widened to CHF 12.9 billion from CHF 8.7 billion in the same period of 2018.

This was the smallest trade surplus since January, as exports fell 0.5 percent to CHF 18.9 billion while imports increased 0.9 percent to CHF 17.2 billion. Considering the first five months of the year, the trade surplus widened to CHF 9.2 billion from CHF 6.8 billion in the same period of 2018.
